AOL bids farewell to consumer brands boss Jimmy Maymann

AOL has confirmed that executive vice president Jimmy Maymann is departing the company, following the announcement that global media sales boss Jim Norton is to join Condé Nast.

The exit of Maymann, who acted as president of AOL’s content and consumer brands, comes soon after the departure of Arianna Huffington. The ex-Leo Burnett ad man previously served as chief executive officer of the Huffington Post unit, having joined AOL through the acquisition of his GoViral business.

“At AOL, we are deep in preparation for 2017 and the potential of adding another powerhouse brand to our global operations with the pending Yahoo acquisition and we are constantly evolving our leadership team and putting the right people in the right roles to drive disruption and transformation in market, and build brands people love,” said an AOL spokesperson.

“We are […] thankful for all that Jimmy Maymann has done at AOL since joining us through the Go Viral acquisition in 2011, and wish him success in his future endeavours. Both [Maymann and Norton] are true leaders in the industry.”

The losses come as AOL and Verizon come to terms with how best to organise the businesses after its Yahoo deal later in the year or early 2017, with sources speculating that AOL will split into two units, one to focus on media and advertising, the other on platforms and tech.
