According to a report by The Guardian, Apple is looking to secure an area near San Francisco to test driverless car technology.

The newspaper reports that the brand met with officials from GoMentum Station, a 2,100-acre former naval base that is being transformed into a specialist facility for autonomous vehicles.

It marks the first occasion that Apple’s oft-rumoured self-driving car scheme Project Titan has been documented. Chief executive Tim Cook has met with a number of automotive executives in recent months, and the brand has been hiring car experts, but the initiative has been shrouded in secrecy.

However, with technology rivals such as Google and Uber ploughing significant resources into autonomous driving, it comes as no surprise that Apple is accelerating its own plans.
