Jordan’s Tourism Ministry has confirmed that it is in discussions with the private sector to establish a Tourism Development Corporation.
According to the Minister of Tourism Maha Khatib, the venture would develop services and improve the infrastructure in specific tourist areas, such as the Citadel, Salt, Umm Qais and desert castles in the Eastern Badia.
“Both the private sector and the Social Security Corporation have shown interest in being partners in the company,” said Khatib.
While unveiling the ministry’s strategy for 2010, Khatib also revealed that the ministry will open and operate visitors’ centres in Umm Qais, Ajloun, Jerash and Qasr Hallabat in addition to the Old Salt Cultural Museum.
