In an effort to counter the inevitable drop in tourist numbers after the World Cup, South Africa Tourism is planning to launch a trade campaign after the final whistle has been blown.
The campaign will launch the week after the final on 11 July and feature two UK travellers in South Africa and all the experiences they have in the country. The ads are currently being shot and has the working title 2010 Experiences.
South Africa Tourism Minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk believes that the World Cup will help the nation position itself as a destination for major events.
“We understand the potential of events like this. South Africa gets 8% of its earnings from tourism, but it is mainly leisure tourism. The next step is major event tourism,” said Van Schalkwyk.
