Orange is teaming up with Netvibes to bring a catalogue of more than 200,000 widgets to 130 million mobile users.
The agreement will see Netvibes’ real-time offerings available across 80% of Orange handsets through the mobile provider’s Application Shop and djinngo mobile service. It marks the first time that that the widget platform will be available across the EMEA region.
Customers will be able to select from a library of widgets via a carousel hosted on the Orange website homepage. The mobile telecoms operator is also creating a software developer’s kit designed to simplify the process of creating widgets.
Orange’s executive vice-president for audience and advertising, Paul-François Fournier said: “Our strategy is to make mobile widgets a reality for everyone and not just the mobile multimedia fans with sophisticated smartphones. Our approach is to offer diverse local content that appeals to all in various languages.”
The partnership will also use Orange’s online broadband service and the online video platform IPTV.
