Newman named president of Ogilvy Chicago
17 February 2012
Ogilvy & Mather has tapped Wieden & Kennedy executive Lee Newman as president of its Chicago office, who will take over from Jack Rooney in April.
Newman joins from Wieden & Kennedy Amsterdam where he was managing director, overseeing the agency’s work for Coca-Cola, Heineken and Nike. He began his career at Leo Burnett where he spent six years, working on the accounts for Disney and Procter & Gamble. Prior to that, he held roles with Fallon and McKinney.
Rooney has been promoted to chairman and chief executive. In his new post, he will oversee SC Johnson’s estimated $1bn global creative business, which was split between Ogilvy and BBDO last year.
“Lee is somebody whose background is perfectly suited to us, in that he’s worked in agencies that put a strong premium on creativity,” says Rooney. “Most importantly, he is someone who knows how to run a large agency, so he is a kindred spirit with the right kind of experience.”
