James Murdoch stripped of News International role
29 February 2012
James Murdoch has been removed as executive chairman of News International, the UK publishing unit of News Corporation.
Murdoch will continue as deputy chief operating officer at News Corp and renew his focus on the international television businesses within his father’s media empire.
Chief executive of News International, Tom Mockridge, will continue in his post and report to News Corp president and COO Chase Carey.
“We are all grateful for James' leadership at News International and across Europe and Asia, where he has made lasting contributions to the group's strategy in paid digital content and its efforts to improve and enhance governance programs,” says News Corp CEO Rupert Murdoch.
“I deeply appreciate the dedication of my many talented colleagues at News International who work tirelessly to inform the public,” says James Murdoch. “News International is now in a strong position to build on its successes in the future.”
