Facebook senior ad exec Sriram Krishnan moves to Snapchat

Sriram Krishnan, who has been responsible for running Facebook’s advertising system Audience Network, is set to join Snapchat as part of the growth and revenue team.

Krishnan has been with Facebook since 2013, where he helped launch Audience Network, designed to allow the social media network to sell display and video ad space inside apps it doesn’t own.

He announced his departure in an email which was reported by Re/code.

Despite Snapchat declining to comment on the specifics of his new role, experts have speculated that, as the messaging app doesn’t currently offer an advertising API, and chief executive Evan Spiegel has shown an interest in automating the process, Spiegel will be helping to build an ad network or building app-install ads.

Krishnan follows in the footsteps of other high profile Snapchat hires from Facebook, including former chief operating officer Emily White, head of human resources Sara Sperling and global director of preferred marketing developer Mike Randall.

Snapchat has also just announced a deal with Nielsen to start measuring ads in a similar way to a TV network, in order to promote itself via a comparable metric to potential advertisers.
