Flint and Clarkson take wider Oath sales roles

The combined company merging Yahoo and AOL properties Oath has named Stuart Flint as head of European sales and Nigel Clarkson to helm commercial efforts in the UK.

Flint, will take up the post of vice-president, EMEA media sales. He previously managing director of AOL in the UK.

Clarkson, who will take the role of UK country manager for Oath, was previously managing director of Yahoo UK.

Clarkson will report to Flint as part of the new organisation.

The promotions will be bittersweet for both operators who are well-liked on the London media scene, as yesterday it’s understood that up to 50 staff at Yahoo’s offices in the UK capital were either made redundant, or entered consultation over their jobs. The company is believed to have up to 260 staff in the UK office.

Oath as a merged entity is expected to cut an estimated 15% of its global workforce because of the Yahoo and AOL deal.

Earlier this week it was reported that Yahoo chief executive Marissa Mayer walked away from her post with a $23m (£18m) pay off following the completion of the $4.48bn (£3.52bn) Verizon acquisition.

Mayer joined Yahoo in 2012 from search giant Google, where she was the company’s first female engineer, and only its 20th employee.

She was one of a three-person team that birthed Google AdWords and later headed the maps and location services division.
