Harman will be responsible for the demand facilitation and operation teams working with advertisers and agencies, developing the teams working with demand-side platforms and advising buyers on approaches to programmatic video.

“The share of ad spend going to programmatic video advertising is increasing and agencies and publishers around the world reap the benefits of automated trading,” said Harman.

He will report to SpotX managing director UK and Southern Europe Leon Siotis.

“I worked with Ian Harman at AOL where I was impressed by his sales leadership and ability to understand client needs and deliver effective campaigns, resulting in increased investment,” said Siotis.

“Since then he has worked at other ad tech companies growing his experience and contact book, which SpotX will now benefit from as he leads the teams to deliver winning results for clients.”

“Leon Siotis is a really knowledgeable and capable leader who has an exciting vision for the business and I will work with him to build and develop the demand facilitation team and enable our clients to optimise their investments in programmatic video advertising,” added Harman.

Former vice president of global programmatic demand Alex Merwin will also move into the role of vice president International, working with the regional managing directors.

Harman will also continue SpotX’s global recruitment drive, focussing on acquiring staff with experience in programmatic mobile and television advertising.

In June, ITV’s Stephen Byrne joins SpotX to bolster Nordic business development.
