Starbucks to enter India with Tata
31 January 2012
Starbucks is partnering with Tata Global Beverages to open its first store in India by August this year.
The first of the chain’s Indian coffee shops will be opened in Mumbai and New Delhi. The partnership plans to have an additional 50 locations within the first year.
Starbucks has an agreement to source its coffee beans from Bangalore-based Tata Coffee, a unit of Tata Global.
“Starbucks brings unique retail expertise as well as a shared sense of business values,” says Tata Global Beverages vice chairman RK Krishna Kumar. "It opens up exciting business opportunities and new formats for Tata Global Beverages.”
The Seattle-based coffee giant is expanding in several markets outside of the US.
Future plans include the opening of its first store in Costa Rica in May, and other Central American locations such as El Salvador and Guatemala.
