Successful debut year for France 24’s Arabic channel
12 October 2011
Since switching its Arabic channel to 24-hour broadcasting last October,
France 24 is now watched by 78% of Tunisians.
Coverage has been assisted by the Tunisian uprising in December 2010, which helped develop France 24 in terms of audience and brand awareness to become the only challenger to pan-Arab channels in many countries.
France 24 is the second most-watched international news-channel in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and Mauritania. Among opinion leaders in Tunisia and Libya the channel receives audience figures of 13.9% and 4.3% respectively, placing it well ahead of its Western rivals.
Interest in the channel’s website also grew with a 143% visitor increase in Morocco, 241% in Algeria and almost 80% in Egypt. It also has near to 300,000 Arabic followers on its Facebook and Twitter accounts.
