CNN Worldwide has appointed Shasta Darlington as its Brazilian correspondent as it opens a new permanent newsgathering hub in São Paulo.

Darlington will focus on covering stories from Brazil and surrounding areas on TV and online. She will specialise in business and current affairs as well as reporting on the upcoming 2014 Fifa World Cup and 2016 Summer Olympics.

Darlington’s most recent position was international correspondent for CNN’s Cuban channel, based in Havana. Prior to joining CNN in 2006 she worked for Reuters in Italy for four years as well as serving as a correspondent for Bloomberg in Brazil.

“CNN is pleased to be establishing a bureau in Brazil with Shasta Darlington as the correspondent,” said international newsgathering senior vice-president Parisa Khosravi. “Her depth of experience reporting on the Latin American region, specifically the time she's spent in Brazil, coupled with her knowledge of business reporting will serve her well in this economic powerhouse.”
