France 24 launches connected TV app

France 24 is launching an application for internet connected televisions.

The application will let users watch France 24 in its three language versions and also watch its global on-demand programmes. It will also be available on other devices, such as tablets, and will let users choose the programmes that they want to watch and view them across several different devices and operating systems.

This deployment on all connected TV sets in Europe and the world is a key stage in the expansion of our distribution,” says France 24 head of distribution and strategy Frank Melloul. “Thanks to this new application, France 24 programmes will be available on all TV sets sold around the world, thus securing additional influence and new viewers in regions where distribution is not optimum.”

Content can also be recommended via Twitter and Facebook through the application.

A first version is already being rolled out by Philips, Toshiba, Sharp, Technisat and Boxee. Agreements with other television manufactures such as Samsung, LG and Panasonic have also been made to allow application to be integrated with their products in the first quarter of 2012.

France 24 is currently available in 245 million households across 200 countries.
