LoveFilm inks deal with BBC Worldwide
06 January 2012
Amazon’s LoveFilm has teamed up with BBC Worldwide in a partnership that will give its subscribers access to the BBC’s portfolio of shows.
The subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) deal includes a range of programmes including Doctor Who, Life On Mars, Spooks, Whitechapel and Planet Earth.
“We’ve had a content partnership with LoveFilm for several years now and it’s great to see this evolve digitally,” says BBC Worldwide sales and distribution head of the UK and Ireland Lisa Rousseau. “We’re delighted to give LoveFilm subscribers the opportunity to instantly watch their favourite British shows, wherever and whenever they wish, alongside a diverse range of great programmes and films.”
The latest content deal with BBC Worldwide follows an agreement made last month between LoveFilm and Sony Pictures Television that allows the streaming of movies from Sony Pictures’ library.
Also last month, BBC Worldwide reached an agreement with US online movie subscription service Netflix to distribute content when it makes its debut in the UK and Ireland this year.
