BBC Worldwide and Netflix in UK deal
20 December 2011
BBC Worldwide has signed a digital licensing agreement with US online movie subscription service Netflix in preparation for its UK and Ireland launch next year.
The deal will allow members to stream popular BBC shows including Doctor Who, Spooks and Torchwood from early 2012 and watch online via connected TVs, tablets, PCs, smartphones and gaming devices.
“UK audiences have really grasped the experience that online viewing can bring and our programming has proven to be particularly popular with this digital audience,” says BBC Worldwide president and managing director of sales and distribution Steve Macallister.
BBC Worldwide content is already available via Netflix in the US, Canada and Latin America.
