Amy Horton

1 – Summarise yourself in three words?

“Direct, honest, passionate.”

2 – What made you want to pursue a career in media and marketing?

“Firstly, I have always had an interest in people and what influences human behaviour. Secondly, my dad suggested I do a post-grad in advertising.”

3 – Describe your ideal client?

“I have been fortunate to have worked on some amazing clients. The best ones are those that have a willingness to work collaboratively, are open to ideas, but have a strong sense of their own brand communications.”

4 – Name your favourite ever campaign?

“I have to say I really liked the ‘This Girl Can’ campaign, it resonated very personally, and was good powerful advertising.”

5 – Which award win are you most proud of, and why?

“I have recently been crowned Kinetic’s best dressed woman of 2016, voted for by colleagues. I feel this is justification for my colourful shoe collection!”

6 – Who is the best industry speaker you have seen?

“Probably Bruce Daisley, who now works at Twitter, but he was always the best presenter when I worked at Emap Advertising with him.”

7 – Which is your favourite social media platform, and why?

“They all annoy me in some way or other. But increasingly, while I don’t tweet much, Twitter is good for news and views updates. Facebook increasingly is full of ads not relevant to me, but good for keeping up with friends, and Instagram often feels a bit too stylish for me, but I am trying to engage more with it.”

8 – Where is your ideal meeting venue?

“A client’s own office. You get a real sense of the brand’s energy being in their own environment.”

9 – What is your favourite restaurant?

“Having been vegetarian for 20 years I’m continually disappointed with the amount of goat’s cheese I’m subjected to. As such I veer towards Indian or Asian, but don’t have a favourite.”

10 – What is hot in international media and marketing, and what is not?

“Hot – Digital and data and the move towards programmatic and interactive OOH, so that we can track consumers’ active journeys. Not – media accountability still needs more work for clients to feel confident in what is being delivered for their investment.”

11 – Which industry buzzword would you ban?

“I would ban all three letter acronyms. They are just designed to make people feel alienated.”

12 – Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?

“I’ve still got so much more I’d like to achieve professionally, but essentially I would like to continue learning and challenging myself and, in my personal time, spend more time with the orang-utans in Borneo – I just returned there for a holiday to help look after and protect them and it was an amazing experience.”

13 – Finally, who would play you in a movie of your life?

“Miss Piggy. She is diminutive but in control.”
