UAE’s The National undergoes a revamp

Middle East-based newspaper The National is expanding its offering to include a premium magazine suite, a revamped Sport section, extended Arts & Life offering and new digital platforms.

The National has also reached a partnership with The Times of India, in a bid to expand its coverage of the subcontinent, adding to its coverage across the Middle East and Africa.

A new magazine suite will be distributed fortnightly with the paper, replacing M Magazine. It consists of two magazines that will alternate fortnightly between travel title UltraTravel and Luxury magazine.

Its Arts & Life section will now be published in a tabloid format and focus on information listings and guides to events taking place in the UAE. The Sport section of the paper has been given a makeover to better reflect its coverage of local and international sports.

The National’s Saturday edition supplements will now be moved to Friday, where they will be combined to create a section called Weekend, a broadsheet glossy.

The National website will continue to run as before, in addition to a new e-reader app for the iPad, as well as an SMS news alert programme for Etisalat subscribers.

“We listened to our readers and have responded with a range of new additions, re-designs and changes to better meet their needs,” says The National managing editor and art director Laura Koot. “Readers will continue to find all of the first-class coverage of news, arts, life and business that they know and love in The National, and much more.”

The new additions and changes will be rolled out from May 3, with the new edition of Luxury.
