News UK recruits FT’s Catherine Newman to head up sales and marketing

British newspaper group News UK has recruited Financial Times director Catherine Newman to head up sales and marketing for The Times and The Sunday Times.

Newman, previously global brand and business to business director at the FT, joins News UK today as marketing and sales director for the two newspapers.

Reporting to News UK chief marketing officer Chris Duncan, Newman will oversee the creation and implementation of a brand strategy across both print and digital. She is tasked with growing total paid sales for The Times and The Sunday Times.

Newman added: “I have built my career in the newspaper industry and am hugely passionate about News. I am looking forward to working with such prestigious brands and leading a talented and committed team to even further success.”

Having started her career at Associated Newspapers, Newman joined the FT in 2002, rising to her current role in 2012.

Last month, the FT was sold by its long-tern owner Pearson to Japanese media group Nikkei in a $1.3bn deal.
