Paramount Comedy launches in Russia
08 February 2012
Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) is expanding the reach of Paramount Comedy, through the launch of the channel in Russia in April 2012.
Paramount Comedy will be available 24/7 in local Russian language and will feature a range of content from stand-up and sketch, satire, off-beat series and classic comedy sitcoms.
The initial programme line-up includes Charlie Sheen’s Roast, Raising Hope, Last Man Standing, Workaholics and South Park.
The channel will also feature local and international blockbusters as well as locally-produced commissions. Sketches from rising Russian comedians such as Dmitry Romanov will play a key role in the channel.
“Having spent a lot of time researching and studying Russian audience tastes, we’re sure there’s a massive opportunity for the right comedy channel to target,” says VIMN Russia general manager Nick Walters. “And we’ve worked really hard to make sure that this channel is right for Russia – with premium content, Russian creative and first-class localisation. As the channel develops, we’re also really looking forward to investing in building our original production slate and nurturing Russian comedy talent.”
At the same time, Mikhail Nepomnyaschy has joined VIMN Russia as commercial director, taking on responsibility for advertising and digital sales for Paramount Comedy and Nickelodeon. He joins from The Walt Disney Company where he led its digital and mobile games operations.
In addition, Andre Gromkovski has been named head of channel for Paramount Comedy Russia, overseeing programming, marketing, communications and digital across all platforms. He joins from Bazelevs Group where he was chief operating officer.
