Twitter hits 100 million mark

Twitter’s chief executive, Dick Costolo, has revealed that the social networking site has reached 100 million global users.
Costolo announced the news at the micro-blogging website's headquarters in San Francisco and also stated that more than half of these users are active and log in on a daily basis.

Twitter recently reported a new record number of tweets sent per second, following the announcement of Beyonce's pregnancy during the MTV Video Music Awards on the back of the news 8,868 tweets were sent every second, eclipsing the 7,196 record set during the Women's World Cup Final between USA and Japan on 17 July.
