Record number of entries for FOM Global Awards

Over 870 submissions from 58 countries have been made to the Festival of Media Global Awards 2012, a 20% increase year-on-year.

The record number of entries into the Awards, which includes the categories ‘Best Social Strategy’, ‘Best Use of Mobile’ and ‘Best Use of Emerging Technology’, is being attributed to the technical diversification of the global advertising business and a greater international focus from chief executives and chief marketing officers.

A total of 58 countries entered the Awards this year, including countries who have never previously entered, from Vietnam to Venezuela. Additional new entrants include Kuwait, Finland, Saudi Arabia and Taiwan. Entries from Brazil, India and China all had an increase of at least 25% from last year, making them the fastest growing markets. The BRIC nations represent 12% of the entries altogether, European countries represented less than 50% of the overall total.

The entries came from both global media agencies such as Mindshare and PHD as well as smaller regional offices such as Mediacom Norway and OMD Dominican Republic.

“Competition will be particularly fierce this year and I know all the judges are looking forward to reviewing the submissions. Creativity and innovation will of course be paramount. We look forward to announcing the shortlist in due course,” says festival founder and C Squared chief executive Charlie Crowe.

The shortlist is due to be revealed on 15 March with Award winners announced at the Festival of Media Global, which takes place in Montreux, Switzerland from 15 to 17 April 2012.
