NY Times launches science mag in China
22 February 2012
The New York Times has reached a license agreement with Chinese publisher Shanghai Zhenwen Advertising to launch monthly science magazine Science Times China.
Science Times China features articles, illustrations and photographs from the weekly Science Times sections of The New York Times, as well as additional content on health, education and technology from The Times and NYTimes.com.
The glossy magazine is written in Chinese and will be distributed in Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong, amongst other densely populated cities in China.
Under the terms of the agreement, The New York Times will have full editorial control over the publication and will approve any local Chinese content to be included in the monthly edition.
The magazine launched with an initial circulation of 20,000 and is priced at $5 on newsstands. Science Times China will be available via subscription in the coming months.
“In publishing this magazine of selected content from The New York Times in Chinese, we want to cater to our readers who are eager to know what is happening in the outside world,” says Science Times China co-publisher Brandon Zhou. “We want to help our readers develop a knowledgeable, healthy, interesting and trendy lifestyle, and Science Times China does just that.”
