Mobile ad impressions grew 251% globally during 2011 across the InMobi network, according to its Mobile Market 2011 Review.

Global smartphone impressions showed 488% growth, while tablet impressions increased 771% year-on-year to reach 11.2 billion.

Europe was ahead of the global trend, with 358% overall growth in mobile impressions, and 722% growth in smartphones.

During Q4 2011, Android was the number one operating system on the InMobi network with 21% share of impressions globally, ahead of Apple’s 17% share.

In Europe, while still behind Android’s 32%, Apple’s share of impressions stood at 28%, spurred by the release of the iPad2 and iPhone 4S.

“Mobile technologies have empowered the development of the media and advertising market and pushed consumer acceptance of media consumption through emerging channels,” says InMobi vice-president of global research and marketing James Lamberti. “Advertisers are now on board with this trend and we expect to see strong innovation in this space as consumers spend more time on mobile devices and less on PCs.”
