BA greets Paralympic athletes with giant projections

British Airways is welcoming athletes arriving at Heathrow airport for the London 2012 Paralympic Games with giant images of ParalympicGB athlete Shelly Woods projected on to the side of the airline’s engineering hangars.

The images of Woods, who is a brand ambassador for British Airways, are visible to passengers before they touch down and are accompanied by the strapline ‘Welcome to our manor’ along with the Twitter hashtag #HomeAdvantage.

The largest image projected measures 58 by 18 metres and was created by the use of extra powerful lumen projectors. The images have already been on display during August 22 and 23, the busiest two days for international athletes arriving for the Paralympic Games.

“We are very excited about the Paralympic Games and wanted to give the athletes an extra boost in the run up to them,” says British Airways sponsorship manager Luisa Fernandez. “We hope this celebratory message does just that.”

As one of the official sponsors of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, British Airways provided flights for athletes involved in 26 Olympic and 20 Paralympic sports to train abroad as well as providing flights for their families.

“The support from the home crowd at the Olympic Games was absolutely terrific and really helped to spur Team GB on to glory,” says Woods. “It will be really important to all of us competing in the Paralympic Games too.”
