Philippe Krakowsky named IPG Mediabrands global chairman

Interpublic Group has named Philippe Krakowsky as chairman of IPG Mediabrands.

Philippe Krakowsky

Krakowsky has been with Interpublic for over a decade, serving on the board of a number of IPG agencies, and oversaw the creation of IPG Mediabrands.

He will continue in his corporate role as European vice president, chief strategy and talent officer at Interpublic.

“Mediabrands and its agencies have won significant assignments in major consolidations, garnered multiple ‘Agency of the Year’ honours and continued to build unique capabilities that combine talent, technology and, increasingly, data and analytics,” said Krakowsky.

“Today, media serves as the connective tissue for our activities on behalf of clients, so a closer strategic alignment between Mediabrands and the other units within IPG will further enhance our ability to deliver on our ‘open architecture’ model, which has become a powerful differentiator for IPG.”

Krakowsky will work with global chief executive Henry Tajer to lead the company, which oversees $37bn in global client billings.

“As we look to accelerate collaboration and continue delivering the highest performance standards in media to our clients, Philippe will be a tremendous asset,” said Tajer.

“Media is an extremely dynamic sector within our industry and this move ensures that we continue to incorporate the leading edge of brand and ad tech not only within Mediabrands, but across the holding company.

“Our leadership team knows Philippe well, and we`re very excited to have him join in this role.”

IPG chairman and CEO Michael Roth and Tajer had reportedly discussed the idea of having a leader join him to develop the company’s approach.

“For the last decade, Philippe has played an important part in defining strategy for IPG, and worked closely with me and all of our agency leaders to implement our strategic initiatives,” Roth added.

“He`ll be an ideal partner to build on the strong performance that Henry and his team at Mediabrands continue to deliver, further scale and advance our media offering, and increase the level of collaboration across the IPG network.

“Of course, in addition to his new role at IPG Mediabrands, Philippe will continue to be a key part of the corporate team at IPG.”
