Facebook Mail promises to turn the entire email hierarchy on its head. By tying together the worlds of email, SMS and social networking, Facebook is creating one convenient access point for consumers.
Who’s it for?
With its new offering the social media platform is looking to tap into the younger generations establishing itself as an integral part in all communication activity in the same way that Google has become synonymous with search.
Why should you care?
Facebook has access to more than 500 million users globally, and as its attention turns to growth in the emerging markets, surpassing the billion user mark appears realistic. That’s a lot of consumer data targeting metrics that it has access to – tying consumers into a fully integrated social operating system is only going to increase its power.
What’s the potential?
The phrase ‘game-changer’ is used all too often but it’s right with something that can eradicate the need for separate email services like Gmail or Hotmail. Facebook Mail will create an even more powerful media owner and increase its potency as an advertising platform.
