Snapchat confirms Viacom’s Jeff Lucas as global ad sales chief

Snapchat has completed the long-rumoured recruitment of Viacom’s Jeff Lucas as its new global ad sales chief.

Lucas is joining to become Snapchat’s vice president and global head of ad sales, according to reports, rather than the chief operating officer role mooted last month.

He departs his position as head of sales and marketing at Viacom Media Networks, and will be replaced by Sean Moran, who assumed the position of head of marketing and partner solutions at Viacom Ad Sales.

Snapchat told Ad Week in a statement: “We’re thrilled to welcome Jeff to the Snapchat family.”

Lucas himself added: “My time with Viacom has been exciting and extremely rewarding. I relied on Sean as a partner and a friend. He is ideally suited to lead the Viacom sales team and I look forward to working with all of them as our industry evolves and grows.”

Lucas has already worked closely with the California-based social platform, when Viacom started selling ads on behalf of the social network and launched global Discover channels for MTV and Comedy Central.

At the time the reports first emerged, Viacom was engaged in upfront negotiations. Lucas’ contribution had been deemed invaluable whilst the leadership of the company was tied up in a legal battle, following Philippe Dauman succeeding Sumner Redstone as Viacom executive chairman.
