Twitter in talks to bring app to Apple TV

Twitter is reportedly discussing bringing its app, including its live streaming content, to Apple TV, allowing TV users to watch Twitter’s live coverage of NFL games on their screens.

According to the New York Times, the deal aims to be reached by autumn 2016. However, spokespeople for Twitter and Apple have made no comment on the rumours.

Although Apple TV users can access Twitter, they currently cannot post or retweet. Following Twitter’s partnership with NFL to stream live coverage, while other games can be watched by Verizon Wireless customers who have downloaded the NFL app or purchased the NFL.com Game Pass.

Other examples of Twitter’s recent live streaming efforts include coverage of Wimbledon, as well as live streaming three Bloomberg shows on tech, finance and politics.

Twitter also reached an agreement to stream Major League Baseball and National Hockey League games in July 2016, going on to sign a partnership with Eleague to cover its first e-sports competition.

“Twitter is one of the fastest ways to find out what’s happening in global business and financial markets, and to engage in the live commentary about it,” added Twitter chief financial officer Anthony Noto.

“Partnering with Bloomberg will give people on Twitter the best way to see live financial markets performance combined with the live commentary on the underlying drivers and implications.”
