Unilever promotes Aline Santos to SVP global marketing role

Unilever has promoted Aline Santos to the role of senior vice president (SVP) for global marketing, replacing Marc Mathieu, who joined Samsung earlier this year.

Santos, a Unilever veteran of 25 years, most recently spent four years as the FMCG giant’s global SVP for the laundry category, overseeing brands such as Persil, OMO and Surf.

She will report to Unilever’s chief marketing and communications officer Keith Weed.

A Unilever spokesperson told The Drum: “[Santos] is one of Unilever’s most talented marketers and, through her 25 years at the company, has played a key role in the development of some of our leading brands.

“She was part of the Dove global brand team in 2002 when the Dove ‘Beauty Theory’ was created, and more recently she has been the architect of the Dirt is Good brand for Persil , OMO and Surf.”

Santos’ predecessor Mathieu left Unilever in June to become CMO for Samsung Electronics America.

The former Coca-Cola and Danone marketer Mathieu joined Unilever in 2011, and was a key architect behind its ‘Crafting brands for life’ strategy to build sustainable global brands.

He was also a driving force behind the Unilever Foundry, an initiative through which the company could identify marketing technology start-ups.
