The shortlist for the World Media Awards 2017 (WMAs) has been revealed, with campaigns for international advertisers such as BMW, HSBC, McDonald’s, Samsung and Airbnb among the nominees.
The WMAs were established by the World Media Group to celebrate the best in cross-platform, cross-border, content-driven advertising, with M&M Global joining this year as official media partner.
The awards are divided into client categories, including Financial Services, Travel & Tourism, Foreign Direct Investment and Economic Development, Technology and Telecoms, Lifestyle & Luxury, Automotive, Corporate Influencer and (New) Media & Entertainment.
A Grand Prix is then selected by the jury from amongst the category winners.
This year’s WMAs has seen a 20% uplift in entries from last year’s inaugural competition, with submissions from markets including the US, Germany, Pakistan and the Faroe Islands. See the full shortlist below.
Entries will be evaluated by a jury of 30 brands, agencies and media owners, chaired by Ian Armstrong, global head of advertising at Jaguar Land Rover, Sanjay Nazerali, global chief strategy officer at Dentsu Aegis, and Raquel Bubar, director of T Brand Studio at the New York Times.

The winners of the Awards will be announced at an event at London’s Ham Yard Hotel on Thursday 6 April 2017.
Winners will also see their work celebrated in an advertising campaign valued at €500k ($550k) which will run across the World Media Group titles such as The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, Time and Quartz.
Nazerali commented: “Telling compelling brand stories across markets is a major challenge, so I have been impressed by many of this year’s entries. In particular those which found universal truths that span international borders, rather than ephemeral campaign ideas. Also, it has been great to see storytelling across connected touchpoints, where the story is extended through reinvention for each channel – that’s where it gets clever.”
