Blackrock appoints GroupM agencies to global media account

Global asset management company Blackrock has appointed WPP’s Mindshare and MEC to handle its global media, according to reports.

The financial services firm, which spent over $400m on marketing and promotions in 2013, opted for the GroupM agencies over Carat, part of Dentsu Aegis, and Omnicom’s PHD, claims AdAge.

Mindshare will pick up the business is the US, Europe and Latin America, while MEC – the incumbent on the account – will continue to handle Canada and Asia.

According to Kantar Media, Blackrock spent $67m on media in the US in 2013, while Nielsen data showed the firm had a media spend of nearly £4m ($6.3m) in the UK during the same period.

In 2012, Blackrock launched its first global ad campaign using the strapline ‘Investing for a New World’. The campaign ran in markets across North America, Europe and Asia.

Blackrock had not responded to a request for comment at the time of publishing.
