British Airways calls global digital agency review

British Airways has called a review of its global digital agency arrangements, less than a year after consolidating its advertising and loyalty accounts with BBH.

A BA spokesperson confirmed that the account, currently held by OgilvyOne, is up for grabs, stating: “We follow good procurement practices and it is standard for us to issue RFPs to ensure our business needs are met.”

OgilvyOne won the business in 2012, following a pitch against SapientNitro and AKQA. It will reportedly re-pitch for the account.

Just under a year ago, the UK airline restructured its agency arrangements, retaining long-time ad agency partner BBH, and placing its loyalty business – previously held by OgilvyOne – with a new, BBH-led joint venture.

At the time of the appointment, BA’s then-head of marketing Abigail Comber said the set-up represented a “radical” approach to delivering “great creativity combined with economies of scale”.

In November, BA’s top marketer, managing director for brand and customer experience Frank van der Post, departed to join Dutch telecommunications firm KPN as chief commercial officer.

BA has subsequently announced a restructure of its global commercial operations, with Sara Dunham taking up the new role of head of marketing, retail and direct, reporting to chief commercial officer Andrew Crawley.
