Drone waiters deployed in Singapore restaurant

A restaurant chain in Singapore has presented its plans to soon deploy a fleet of drones in its establishments in order to help staff and streamline its serving process.

The drones, created by Infinium Robitics, are designed to carry up to 2kg of food and drink and navigate around chartered paths in the Timbre Group’s restaurants using infra-red sensors.

The drones are programmed to avoid other drones, staff and humans.

Rather than completely replacing human staff, the drones are intended to fly back and forth from the kitchen to a drop-off area carrying food and drink, leaving waiters on hand to attend to customers.

According to the BBC, managing director of the Timbre Group Edward Chia said “We still want to have that human touch.”

The drones will be rolled out later this year at the restaurant chain for a seven figure amount.
