Laura Bowen

Summarise yourself in 3 words

Tenacious. Obsessive. Geek.

What made you want to pursue a career in media and marketing

I have always pursued variety, growth and excitement, never a specific career path, and the media and marketing industry has been generous to me in this regard. My flair for design, technological skillset and understanding of audience communications have drawn me into an industry that I am proud to be a part of shaping.

Describe your ideal client

A client who views us as a partner rather than a supplier, open to learning together and taking the right type of calculated risks.

Name your favourite ever campaign

Moneysupermarket’s ‘Epic Strut’ by Mother. Allegedly the most complained about ad of 2015 for being overtly sexual. So obviously they followed it up with a pole-dancing builder.

Which award win are you most proud of and why?

So far, first place in the Year Seven egg and spoon race, but watch this space.

Who is the best industry speaker you have ever seen?

Sheryl Sandberg. Encouraging women everywhere to maximise their potential. As a female at the helm of a tech business I echo her crusade.

Which is your favourite social media platform and why?

Real life trumps any social media platform but probably Pinterest – it is at the pinnacle of the social media ecommerce evolution.

Where is your ideal meeting venue?

Anywhere that makes a *good Aperol Spritz! (*Olive mandatory)

What is your favourite restaurant?

TAKAZAWA Tokyo – Yoshiaki Takazawa is meticulous and incredibly humble. The Firefly Squid were a spectacle.

What is hot in international media and marketing and what is not?

Hot: Technology that empowers businesses to make better decisions for themselves.

Not: Losing your independence in someone else’s product.

Which industry buzzword would you ban?

I wouldn’t ban the term programmatic completely (obviously), just 90% of its usage.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years’ time?

I live moment to moment so 10 years is a long way away, but I know I will being doing something I feel passionate about, exactly as I am today.

Finally, who would play you in a movie of your life?

Julianne Moore or Rachel McAdams. Both are unassumingly fierce and gloriously ginger!
