Meet ‘New P&G': CEO AG Lafley kicks off global management shake-up

Procter & Gamble has kicked off a shake-up of its global management team, as the FMCG giant looks to become more “streamlined and focused”.

P&G

In a leaked memo from P&G chief executive AG Lafley, published by the Wall Street Journal, it is revealed that four senior leaders will be retiring over the coming 12 months.

They include Melanie Healey, group president, North America selling and market operations; Filippo Passerini, group president, global business services, and chief information officer; Jorge Uribe, global productivity and organisation transformation officer; and Joanne Crewes, president, global prestige.

Adil Mehboob-Khan, president, global salon professional, is also leaving the company to “pursue other interests”.

A number of appointments have been made as part of the new-look structure.

Carolyn Tastad, currently global customer business development officer, has been named group president, North America selling and market operations.

Patrice Louvet has been appointed group president, global cosmetics, prestige and salon professional; Charlie Pierce has been named group president, global grooming; and Steve Bishop becomes group president, global oral care.

It follows the announcement that P&G is scrapping as many as 100 of its brands.

In the memo, Lafley wrote a “more streamlined and focused P&G is taking shape”, with the “right leadership structure” for the “new P&G”.

He added: “These changes simplify the way we organise and manage the Company. We have fewer business presidents and a flatter structure. We’ve consolidated functions to better support the businesses. As a result, we will have the same or fewer presidents and function leaders as we had in 2001 when sales were $3bn—less than half our sales today.

“P&G’s senior leadership has been, is, and will continue to be more innovative and productive—just like the rest of P&G. We will continue to evolve our leadership structure, business models and organization capacity to ensure we are designed and staffed to win.”
