Coke APAC marketing director Peter Schelstraete promoted to global role

Coca-Cola’s top marketer for the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, Peter Schelstraete, is reportedly set to take up a new global post at the soft drinks brand.

According to Campaign Asia-Pacific, Schelstraete, who has served as group marketing director for APAC since July 2013, is to move to the brand’s Atlantic headquarters to become global lead of digital, connections and assets.

In the new position, it is believed he will oversee Coke’s marketing activation of its Olympics and FIFA sponsorships. It is not yet known who will replace him in the APAC role.

Former Beiersdorf marketer Schelstraete first joined Coke in 1997 as group brand manager for Belgium. He has since held a number of regional roles, including division core brand manager for North and West Africa, and marketing director to South-East and West Asia.

Prior to taking up his current position, Schelstraete operated as franchise and commercial director for Coca-Cola Philippines.

Separately, it has been announced that Coca-Cola is to mark the centennial of its famous ‘contour’ bottle design with a new global ad campaign.

CEO Muhtar Kent previewed a couple of the new ads during an analyst presentation, including one called ‘Balloons’ featuring a cover a 80s pop song ’99 Red Balloons’.
