We caught up with one of the members of our advisory board for North America, Stephen Hall the Chief Marketing Officer at Horizon Media to find out how they’ve adapted to challenges of 2020.
This year has certainly posed a few challenges, but what was the biggest one your business faced when Covid 19 struck? Bill, our Founder and CEO, had a mantra: people over profits. This meant our priority was the health and wellbeing of our people was paramount. Then, as we sought to navigate the business we committed to no layoffs or furloughs, fortunately despite the business pressures we were able to make that happen.
What changes has the business made which you believe will be here to stay? Remote working for many organizations will be a permanent shift but that also opens up more opportunities to recruit and retain talent.
What changes, if any, do you think will no longer be valid when we return to some form of normal? What changes worked and which ones did not? I hope we become better for the changes and that we continue to improve and not fall back to the old normal.
What is the most innovative initiative or strategic piece of thinking the business has implemented? We recently launched a data intelligence, AI powered ecommerce company, Night Market. As the pandemic forced massive change in ecommerce and online fulfilment we had a simple idea: Stage the industry’s first ever eCommerce Upfronts. All the major players are partners and in July Horizon will host the industry’s first ever eCommerce Upfront event we are calling: eCommFronts.
What key trends and insights are you seeing rising to prominence during these times? Joining the fight for Black Lives Matter and racial justice is the most important thing we can do right now. Rather than talk about industry change, I would welcome the opportunity to use this and every platform to help stop the hate and bring an end to racism.
