The IPG Mediabrands agency replaces Zimmerman Advertising without a review, according to reports. Initiative’s New York office will handle all media planning and buying for the brand, as well as digital and social media work.

The decision was made by Papa John’s senior VP-chief marketing officer Bob Kraut, who joined the firm in 2013. Last year he reviewed the brand’s ad account, also previously handled by Zimmerman, awarding the business to Grey.

A Papa John spokesperson told the media: “This was an internal decision as part of Papa John’s ongoing effort to be a more global company and improve efficiencies. We feel like Initiative is the right partner as we continue to move in this direction.”

“We’re thrilled to partner with one of the country’s leading brands,” said Peter Mears, president and CEO of Initiative North America. “Papa John’s progressive approach and commitment to delivering a superior product has everyone at our agency excited to help them achieve their business objectives.”

Founded in the US in 1984, Papa John has a growing international presence in nearly 30 markets across Europe, Latin America and Asia, including outlets in Beijing and Shanghai.
