Snapchat wants brands to cough up ‘$750,000 a day’ for ads

Snapchat is asking advertisers to pay $750,000 for a day’s worth of advertising on the platform, according to Adweek.

The price suggests that Snapchat is aiming to get top-tier brands to advertise to its mainly teenage audience of over 100 million monthly users.

Advertisers who choose to buy a spot on the platform will have their ad appear alongside “Snapchat Stories”, which are photos and videos posted by users’ friends. However, each user will have to choose to view it by tapping the ad’s thumbnail.

The messaging app, which has a heavy video focus, only started running ads late last year.

McDonald’s, Samsung, Macy’s, EA and Universal Pictures are some of the initial advertisers to promote their products on the app.

On top of Snapchat’s hefty price tag for its ads, many advertisers have issues with the startup, according to AdWeek. One of the biggest complaints is that the messaging platform isn’t equipped at the moment to provide advertisers with specific information, including gender and age breakdowns, about who sees the ads.

It emerged in October last year that Yahoo has potential plans to invest in the app, which would value Snapchat at $10bn.
