Tesco reshuffle sees Robin Terrell appointed to top marketing job

UK retailer Tesco has carried out its second senior marketing reshuffle inside six months, appointing Robin Terrell as its new top marketer.

The supermarket, which is under investigation over accounting irregularities, has appointed group multichannel director Terrell as head of customer. He joined Tesco last year, having held senior roles at retail brands such as Wilco, House of Fraser, Amazon and John Lewis.

Terrell replaces Jill Easterbrook, a 13-year Tesco veteran, who has spent only six months in the role. She will now lead brand’s business transformation programme.

The restructure, which comes into effect on 1 January, will also see the abolition of the role of chief creative officer, held by one-time Tesco CMO Matt Atkinson. He is now expected to leave the business.

Meanwhile, newly-appointed chief executive Dave Lewis – who joined from Unilever in September – is to take over the day-to-day running of Tesco’s UK business, following the revelation of a £264m ($415m) ‘black hole’ in its accounts.

Eight executives, including UK managing director Chris Bush, were suspended pending the results of an investigation into the accounting irregularities. One of those, group food sourcing director Matt Simister, has been cleared to return to his role.
