Wired’s Rupert Turnbull joins Time & Fortune as group international publisher

Wired UK publisher Rupert Turnbull has been hired as the new group international publisher for Time & Fortune magazines.

Rupert Turnbull

Turnbull, who has led Conde Nast-owned Wired since 2010, will join Time Inc. on 8 December with a remit covering all territories outside the US. He replaces Andy Bush, previously EMEA publisher for Time & Fortune, who was recently appointed senior vice president, global accounts, at Time Inc.

A former media buyer at Leo Burnett, Turnbull first joined Conde Nast in 2004, and has worked on titles including House & Garden, Condé Nast Traveller and GQ. He has also held roles at Men’s Health and Hello! Magazine.

While in the role at Wired, he oversaw the expansion of the title from a monthly print magazine into a multi-platform brand, including its annual series of events such as Wired: Next Generation, Wired Health and Wired Money.

Turnbull told M&M Global he is “thrilled and honoured” to be joining two of the “most iconic magazine brands on the planet”.

“For decades, both Time and Fortune have been capturing and reporting on the events that shape our personal and business lives through exceptional reporting, writing and photography,” said Turnbull.

“We live in uncertain and often confusing times, geo-politically and economically, and the role of the editor-curator making sense and contextualising the world is crucial now more than ever.

“However, while Time & Fortune have seen great success, there is plenty more that can be done. Tradition will not keep them healthy for the next 100 years – innovation will. That will mean further exploration of digital – particularly mobile – and also of brand experiences.

“The DNA of the brands is storytelling and I look forward to discovering new ways to enable our exceptional journalists to tell their stories to the next generation of knowledge-hungry consumers.”
