Tom Wan will move from WPP’s Ogilvy & Mather Group to join IPG Mediabrands as chief executive of operations in China in January.
Cary Huang is stepping down as China CEO, having been with the company since June 2011.
Wan started his career at McCann Erickson New York before taking on roles at Saatchi & Saatchi New York and China. He will report to IPG Mediabrands’ global CEO Henry Tajer.
“Tom Wan has long been a prominent figure in the Asia Pacific region, and we’re delighted to have him on board leading one of our most exciting and important markets,” said Tajer.
“I would also like to thank Cary for his hugely positive impact during his time with us, increasing our client base and bringing our specialist services together under one roof. I am looking forward to Tom building on that legacy and further growing our business.
“China has seen a huge amount of innovation in recent years, in particular on the digital front and Tom will be crucial in growing our output in those areas.”
Wan added: “This is a fantastic new challenge for me and I am excited to be joining what I believe is one of the region’s most impressive media networks at a time when new leadership is taking the company in an exciting new direction.”
